Typical applications

Card Access and Smart Cards

Typical applications include point of sale for campus cafeteria services, employee ID cards and time and attendance systems.

Most card reading solutions are available in desktop and wall-mount configurations and can connect easily into PCs and other host systems.

For mobile data capture applications, card reading and receipt printing may also be combined, to provide one integrated solution.

Wireless networks

Campuses often suffer from poor wireless network coverage as their networks have evolved over time. We offer Wireless Network Diagnostics and are able to advise on system changes and upgrades.

We can diagnose typical problems affecting systems, including co-channel interference, poor placement and external interferences. Our wireless solutions aim to provide a seamless pervasive wireless infrastructure, combining multi-radio Access Points (AP's) to create parallel, simultaneous wireless networks whilst using the same AP's. Separate channel blankets offer the unique ability to guarantee quality of service, by physically segregating different user types, traffic and roles onto different channels, which are ideal for multi user education environment.

Student registration and truancy

We can offer assistance with the difficult task and complex task of keeping track of truants. Through Truant Track, a versatile monitoring system that uses a handheld terminal and specialist software you can keep track of truants. Some of the primary benefits include:

Edinburgh University: Spirit supplied the Motorola Cobra LS2208 handheld barcode scanners and Motorola MC70s for use in fire equipment and asbestos surveys, planned maintenance and even for recording and monitoring water temperatures to prevent legionella outbreaks.

Goldsmiths College: recently embarked on two new barcode scanning projects. The first was a system that can be used to carry out an inventory of computers. The second involves the use of barcodes on questionnaires using the Datamax E4203 direct thermal printer and the Honeywell 3800LX scanner, BarTender software and
HP5L and HP2100 printers.

University of Huddersfield: Implemented a magnetic card identity system using the Honeywell ST6920 Magnetic Card Reader. The ST6920 connects with PCs through a keyboard wedge interface.

University of York: upgraded their automated system that it uses for stocktaking and to track items issued across the counter using the M3 PDA.
